First FIFA Soccer World Cup 1930

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The first FIFA World Cup was played in Montevideo, Uruguay. Uruguay is a small country located in South America and between Argentina and Brazil. Uruguay joined FIFA in 1923 and a year later, in Paris, 1924, became the first South American team to win an Olimpic Soccer Title. Uruguay also win the Olimpic Soccer Cup in Amsterdam, 1928. After the 1928 Olimpics, the FIFA, decided it was time to establish a World Cup Competition, due that International football can no longer be held within the confines of the Olympics, and many countries where professionalism was recognized and organized cannot any longer be represented there by their best players.

So, Uruguay was selected by FIFA to be the first host for the FIRST SOCCER WORLD CUP 1930 Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and the host country Uruguay from South America. The United States and Mexico from North and Central America, and Yugoslavia, Romania, France and Belgium from Europe.- No more countries from Europe due the long sea voyage, it could take up to a month. This angered the Uruguayans, who where celebrating their national Centenary at the time and had offered to pay all expenses.

Given that most nations today would sell their souls to get into the World Cup final stages, it's strange to think that so many countries decided no to play in the FIRST WORLD CUP 1930.

Well, in the Championship Game, Uruguay drew first blod against Argentina, through Pablo Dorado, but Argentina equalaized eight minutes later with a goal by Carlos Pencelle and took the lead when striker Guillermo Stabile scored. But Pedro Cea from Uruguayan team, tied the game early in the second half, before goals by teammates Santos Iriarte and Hector Castro, please note that player Hector Castro had only one arm, and security victory for Uruguay
Final: URUGUAY 4 - ARGENTINA 2

URUGUAY WAS THE FIRST CHAMPION OF THE FIFA WORLD CUP 1930.-

Schedule For Cricket Match Series Between South Africa and India

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Amidst the war to retain number one position in five day test matches, India is really keen to play with its nearest competitor - South Africa. The plan was made on a very short notice. BCCI (Board of Cricket Control of India) requested South Africa board for this series. South Africa also showed its interest for the competition and they decided for a series in India.

Now, the schedule has arrived and these two nations will play two test matches and three one dayers between Jan 31 and Feb 27. They will also play couple of practice matches in the meantime.

The entire schedule follows:

Jan 31: South Africa (SA) team arrives in Mumbai

Feb 1: SA team travels to Nagpur for the first test match

Feb 2-Feb 3: SA team plays two day practice match at Nagpur

Feb 6-Feb 10: First Test Match in Nagpur

Feb 14-Feb 18: Second Test Match at Eden Gardens at Kolkata

Feb 21: First One Day International (ODI) between India and RSA in Jaipur (Day/ Night match)

Feb 24: Second ODI between India and RSA in Kanpur

Feb 27: Third ODI between India and RSA in Ahmedabad (Day/ Night match)

It is apparent that whoever wins the Test Series will retain the pride of being number one in the 5 day test matches. India has advantage of playing on home ground, but South Africa is known for their strength to challenge teams at their home turf too. We look forward for another exciting series where both the teams are likely to play with their full strength.

Concrete and Jersey Barrier

Friday, November 26, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Precast jersey barriers have universal usage; they are ideal for securing vacant properties or buildings, and prove to be a very efficient deterrent to unwelcome visitors. As more and more industrial units and factories are becoming empty, owners want peace of mind knowing that their buildings are not going to be vandalised and damaged. Concrete barriers or jersey barriers make for ideal perimeter security walling and can be placed neatly next to each other - creating an affective barrier to vehicles.

When trying to secure an empty site there are a number of steps that should be taken. The first and most important step is to do a full survey of the perimeter; identifying all weak points. Once this process has been undertaken suitable steps can be taken to ensure that the perimeter cannot be breached. As well as concrete barriers, there are a number of alternative methods that can be used. Simply digging a ditch to ensure vehicles cannot enter, can often be an extremely effective solution.

Entrances and exits are an obvious weak point. This is where a concrete barrier or jersey barrier can be very effective. Placing a concrete barrier in the way of anyone trying to gain access will generally be enough to stop them entering, particularly given that the jersey barrier will weigh in excess of 2 tonne. If cost is an issue, then firms will often hire the barriers to you, meaning costs can be kept down.

Its always worth remembering that it is much better to deal with the potential problem now, rather than waiting for the site to be broken into. The costs of clearing someone off the land will generally be considerably higher than securing it properly in the first place.

The Necessity Of Good Insurance In South Africa

Image : http://www.flickr.com

South Africa has a need for insurance just as much as any other country in the world. Luckily, there are many good insurance companies in our country. But why do we need good insurance companies in South Africa, and why do we need them even more so than other countries? Firstly you need to keep in mind that South Africa can be a very dangerous country. You are more at risk in South Africa of having your home contents stolen, or your vehicle involved in a collision. We will look into this further.

First of all, we will talk about your motor vehicle. It is an unfortunate fact that South Africa has a higher incidence of collisions than any other country in the world. This is due to a number of factors.

Firstly, there are more people driving on our roads illegally, meaning that they do not have a legitimate driver's license.

Secondly, a lot of the cars on South African roads are not actually roadworthy! The highest cause of collisions in South Africa is because of people driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. Why is this happening in our country? Well first of all, it is because we do not have a reliable and good public transport system, so people feel they have no other choice but to drive their own vehicles.

Furthermore, people are not educated enough about the dangers of drinking and driving, and the cherry on top is that there is a corrupt policing system in place which is not effectively enough crunching down on drunken driving. The quality of some of South Africa's roads are poor, and this can also lead to collisions. As you can see, there are many factors that contribute towards the high accident toll. Irrespective of the reasons why there are so many collisions, you need to take the necessary measures to protect yourself and your vehicle. Having motor insurance is the best thing you can do. What would you do if you were in a collision and did not have insurance? Would you be able to afford to fix the damages, or even replace your vehicle completely? Probably not! This is why you should seek out a motor insurance policy.

Next up we have life and medical insurance. Firstly, medical insurance is something that is so important. Bear in mind that medical insurance is not necessarily the same as medical aid. Medical insurance will cover you in case you need to pay for something medical related that is very costly and is not covered by your medical aid. Life insurance is a very specialized policy in that it will only pay out upon your death. You pay a monthly contribution, otherwise known as your premium, and then your beneficiaries will be paid out a lump sum when you pass away. This sum is already decided on when you sign up for the policy. This is a very nice thing to do for your family, and is especially recommended if you provide for other people financially. Remember that the younger you are when you take out the policy, the cheaper the premiums will be.

It is easy to see why insurance is an absolute necessity in South Africa, just as it would be anywhere else. Taking out an insurance policy for anything is simply the wise thing to do. You can easily find good, reliable insurance companies online.

Hosting World Cup 2010 Football

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

World Cup 2010 football is a serious force to be reckoned with. This premiere football event happens every four years, and the hype and circus atmosphere it brings is only rivaled by the hype and circus of the Olympic Games. Teams from every corner of the globe will diverge on a host city and transform it into the epicenter of football for a few weeks this July. Cape Town, South Africa, has been chosen to host in 2010, and it has been preparing for the honor since before it was declared the official host.

South Africa Prepares Infrastructure
South Africa's preparation for World Cup 2010 football has been re-creating the city on a fundamental level. From streets to buildings to landscaping, the city has worked to give itself the best face possible when the entire world turns toward South Africa this summer. The tournament provides an excellent opportunity for South Africa to show off its tourism possibilities and draw more travelers to its cities once the games are over. Hosting such a high profile event can create an image for a city that lasts for decades, and it's important to make sure that the world sees what you want it to see.

Construction of Football Complexes
In addition to the infrastructure improvements in South Africa, they have also been building state of the art football complexes to host the World Cup 2010 football games. These new football stadiums should hold the massive crowds that are expected to attend the games, and they should also provide easy access for the scores of media personnel and equipment that are required to broadcast the games to the many worldwide nations that want to watch on television. Sparkling new stadiums add a fresh look to the games, and give another great image of South Africa to the world.

Individual Teams Transform The Landscape
All of the World Cup 2010 football building isn't being done by the host nation, however. Some of the larger teams are in the process of building their own practice facilities with lodging for the teams. England, for example, is creating a world class compound to house their World Cup team. It has a practice area with a field that would be high quality enough to host some of the games itself. Though it is still a work in progress, the compound should be an impressive sight when it's time for the tournament to begin.

Football Takes Over Cape Town
As the buzz for the World Cup 2010 football tournament increases, Cape Town has become a city obsessed with football. There is mention of the tournament on almost every corner, and residents are bracing themselves for the influx of thousands of passionate football fans later this summer. The benefits of being a host nation will last long after the excitement of this year's World Cup matches is over, and Cape Town will reap the rewards for decades to come. When the tourists leave and the smoke clears, Cape Town and all of South Africa will be left with historic venues and the good will of the world.

Nike Total90 Laser III FG - Neptune Blue/Vibrant Yellow/Black Firm Ground Soccer Shoes

Monday, November 22, 2010

Nike takes shooting power and accuracy to the next level with the Total90 Laser III. Bonus: Each pair comes with a unique user-code that allows online access to Nike Soccer+, where you will find accuracy training drills and expert tuition provided by the coaching team at Juventus FC. The Nike Soccer+ digital experience also has a coaching session from Fernando Torres of Liverpool FC. Nike designers broke down the biomechanics of striking the ball into specific elements to help them design the ultimate boot for power and accuracy. Five pods in the strike zone create a uniform contact point for a smoother surface resulting in even pressure distribution. The pods are configured as five separate units that operate as one to remain flexible and fluid. Advanced shape-correcting memory foam provides a smooth and consistent surface to enhance accuracy when shooting. Engineered Microfins, ie. small raised TPU fins on a honeycomb panel deliver increased friction with the ball to ensure more swerve. Each small fin is strategically angled and sized to enhance control over ball trajectory, but folds on contact with the ball to accommodate great touch and feel. The laces have been repositioned to be more asymmetrical for a cleaner strike surface and easier fit and adjustment of the boot. Reinforcements to the external heel counter and outsole ensure comfort and stability. UPPER: Premium-grade synthetic leather for comfort and touch. World Equestrian Games 2010 - Driving to Victory Four in Hand

Sunday, November 21, 2010

At the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, you are bound to see many beautifully matched and dressed harness teams, four by four, prancing about during testing and practice sessions before the three competitions involving them come under way. These are the driving teams, and their jobs are quite difficult, if they do say so themselves. The very first challenge with developing and perfecting this type of unit is finding the four horses that have the qualities that they need in order to work together and do it well. The mental strengths of a front anchor horse, for instance, may need to be a bit higher than those of the horse behind it.

One could never simply hitch four random horses together and make them go well at the drop of a hat. And these teams are meant to go well under some extremely tiring and rough work. The first phase of their competition will be driven dressage, wherein each of the horses individually and as a team will be graded for their suppleness, lightness, comprehension, movement, skill, and for the way that they bend and arch on the move. If you thought watching the individual horse and rider teams practice and perform the beautiful art of dressage, just wait until you see four horses dance this ancient training method with the help reins only.

The cross country leg of the driving contest will find the four in hand teams journeying masterfully along just under 18 kilometers of natural trail obstacles and timed maneuvers. Time faults will occur for every predetermined increment over the allotted time frame for the course. During this phase, the teams will be judged on their endurance, confidence, strength, and ability to perform under tiring and potentially stressful conditions. The driver will be judged on his ability to encourage, guide, and control his horses with the use and mastering of horsemanship skills.

Finally, agility, coordination, balance, and skill will be tested on a stadium obstacle course comprised of cones. These cones are placed in a stationary maze, and on top of each one is perched a ball. Drivers will guide their horses through this timed obstacle course, and for each ball knocked off or cone disturbed, faults will be added to the overall, three phase score. The lowest score will determine the winner of the driving competition, but each team is commended on making it to these, the most exciting and prestigious equestrian games in the world.

Polyester Is Making Soccer Uniforms Cool!

Once upon a time, in the 1970's, polyester was the king of cool fabrics, worn by everyone for every occasion. Soon, however, this synthetic material's popularity went the way of Disco music and the 8-track player used to listen to it on. On the soccer field, however, polyester lives on, and new ways of weaving this durable fabric have made it the material for designing comfortable, easy to care for uniforms.

Soccer uniforms are not simply color-matched clothes for the team to wear while playing the game. These clothing items should be considered as important as the ball choice and the cleats, since a great deal of the player's ability to give an optimal performance will depend on how their body is reacting to either the heat or to a cold chill. The correct selection of the soccer uniform can enhance or detract from the team's overall performance, and therefore deserves appropriate attention.

Polyester shares the spotlight with no other fabric on the soccer field. It is lightweight, durable and breathable, and allows for very little color bleeding, if any. CoolMax, designed by Dupont, has taken the old stand by of polyester, and created a hybrid, 4-channel spun fiber that wicks moisture quickly away from the body, and dries in an instant, leaving the player cool and comfortable even in the hottest game of the season. Now the old work horse, polyester, performs like a thoroughbred, making even the most inexperienced player look and feel like a champion.

No discussion on soccer uniforms would be complete without considering socks. Socks must be well fitted, and preferably made of one of today's high tech moisture wicking fiber blends, designed to help keep feet dry and blister free. It would be a shame to afford no time to proper sock fitting since the best cleats money can buy will not be able to compensate for the discomfort a pair of ill fitting socks can cause.

As in the jersey and short construction, polyester and its hybrid cousins stand out in performance and durability. When choosing soccer socks, look for the blend to list polyester first, or highest, among the named components. You will pay a bit more, sometimes double for soccer socks with a high polyester thread count, however choosing the better socks over those made of say, primarily acrylic, will pay off for you in happier player's feet. In a game where feet are of supreme importance, it is wise to invest a bit in the proper care and comfort of them.

If you are the parent of a youth soccer player, and for financial reasons the least expensive socks are being ordered for the team, it would be very prudent of you to purchase the upgraded polyester blend socks for your child. Just make sure they are an exact match. Ideally, ask the coach or team manager to order them for your child along with the entire uniform order, explaining you are willing to pay the cost differential.

What Makes Adidas Soccer Cleats Durable?

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Adidas soccer cleats are made for hard ground and firm ground. Cleats are made for playing soccer; the shoes have studs to be firm on the ground and will have control. This is on the bottom of the shoe to prevent players from sliding and for them to have foot control.

There are many brands to choose from when it comes to soccer cleats. What I like most is the soccer cleats of Adidas brand because it is durable and strong. It holds firmly on the ground and the shoe has great designs too. One of the most popular endorser of the product is David Beckham. As we can see it is obviously Becks favorite kind of brand. It is comfortable to wear and very light.

A lot are choosing the brand because it is more affordable compared with other popular brands. Its design is simple but very comfortable to wear. What is important when choosing a soccer shoe is its durability and its cleats, it has to be firm and strong. Adidas has it and is recommended.

I would say that Adidas is really improving especially when it comes to soccer cleats. They are very much concerned on the buyer's choice, which is a satisfaction and contentment for the buyer. Some products might be expensive especially the new arrivals but surely it is worth of your money. When I think of soccer cleats, I would surely recommend Adidas because of its durability, design and affordability. If you want to look like Beck, try the Adidas soccer cleats.

adidas Shin Guard Straps Specifications

The vision of company founder Adolf Dassler has long become reality, and his corporate philosophy the guiding principle for successor generations. The idea was as simple as it was brilliant. Adi Dassler’s aim was to provide every athlete with the best possible equipment. It all began in 1920, when Adi Dassler made his first shoes using the few materials available after the First World War.

The adidas name dates back to 1948, deriving from the first two syllables of Adi Dassler’s first and last name. One year later, Adi Dassler registered the Three Stripes as a trademark. After a period spanning almost 70 years, the Dassler Family withdrew from the company in 1989, and the enterprise was transformed into a corporation ("Aktiengesellschaft"). French-born Robert Louis-Dreyfus was Chairman of the Executive Board from April 1993 to March 2001. It was he who initiated adidas’ flotation on the stock market in November 1995. adidas--a name that stands for competence in all sectors of sport around the globe. Today, the adidas product range extends from shoes, apparel and accessories for basketball, soccer, fitness and training to adventure, trail and golf.

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is one of the most popular attractions of Cape Town. With scarcely 4 weeks before the start of the 2010 World Cup, the CEO of the V&A Waterfront, Mr. David Green, said in a press release that the Waterfront was prepared in al respects for the expected influx of visitors for the FIFA 2010 World Cup 2010 tournament to be held from June till July, with about 100,000 visitors per day expected at the Waterfront. With so many visitors expected, Green said that security and infrastructure measures have been improved in the build up to the World Cup. "On match days there will be a 50% increase in security and non-match days there will be a 25% security increase above what we currently have. 60 Waterfront ambassadors have been recruited to be available for tourists throughout the 300 acre campus. "We will be open as usual from 9am to 9pm, although food and beverage outlets can trade till 2am and in some cases we have increased the hours to 4am," he explained.

Green said there were two safe, yet scenic, routes which visitors can use to walk to the Waterfront; accessed at the Clock Tower and at the West Quay past Cape Grace and Bascule Bridge. However, in line with FIFA regulations, certain access routes around the stadium will be closed on match days and fans and visitors to the stadium and the V&A Waterfront are strongly encouraged to make use of public transport and Park-and-Ride options.

Spectator Zones: To enhance the World Cup experience for the anticipated 350,000 visitors to Cape Town during the football tournament, the V&A Waterfront has organised four prime-site Spectator Zones:

· Quay 4, diagonally opposite the Amphitheatre, will seat 400 spectators and will be open from 10am till 1am. Entrance is free and TV screens will be in place to view matches.
· The MTN Spectator Zone at Clock Tower Square offers free admission and also has a capacity of 400; it opens at 11am; all the games will be aired on flat screen TV's
· The Hyundai Spectator Zone will be situated opposite the Caltex Service Station and has a capacity of 2,000 with a cost of R100 per person. The game will be viewed on 1 large screen.
· The V&A Waterfront Lookout Point is situated above the Breakwater Parking Garage also with a capacity of 2000 with a cost of R150 pp. This venue will feature two activities specifically for the USA and UK supporters, entitled "Eagle's Nest" and "Lion's Den."

Wheel of Excellence: Another exciting attraction arriving at the end of May will be the Wheel of Excellence, a Waterfront exclusive for the World Cup. This will be fully illuminated giant observation wheel 50 metres in height, and featuring 36 fully enclosed luxury cabins that will treat visitors to a unique sightseeing opportunity; with spectacular views of the City as well as Table Mountain and Robben Island. It will be situated at the Canal site, opposite the Caltex Garage. The wheel will be fully operational from June 8 and will remain at the V&A Waterfront for an extended period after the World Cup matches. Ticket price to the Wheel of Excellence is R70 per person.

Safety and security: The Waterfront's CEO provided details of improvements in safety and security, cleaning, lighting, access routes and parking facilities, following comparative risk assessments based on valuable lessons learnt at the World Cup in Germany. "We have increased our security presence by 50% on match days and 25% on non-match days, to ensure we are covered to handle any unexpected eventualities. This includes employing additional full-time security personnel during the World Cup. All additional security personnel have worked with the area during the test match period, so are familiar with the site and proceedings. In addition, we have reviewed and updated the positioning of our 1000-plus CCTV cameras in all common areas" he said.

The new Information Centre (alongside Ferryman's Tavern on Dock Road) has been upgraded at a cost of R5,5 million, and aims to be the first stop to welcome local and international visitors to the V&A Waterfront. In addition to general tourist information, services include reservations for accommodation in Cape Town and tour bookings in and around the V&A Waterfront and surrounds.

Visitors should be exited at these developments aimed at enhancing their enjoyment of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and offering an opportunity to mix with the local people.

The Biggest Sports Event of the Year - 2010 FIFA World Cup

Monday, November 15, 2010

2010 FIFA World Cup, the prime international tournament for football has begun on June 11 being hosted by South Africa. This 2010 football world cup would be the 19th FIFA tournament. South Africa became the first African country to host football world cup beating the nations of Egypt and Morocco in the bidding. The cup is being hosted by the popular federation named Oceania Football Confederation.

In August 2007, the process for the world cup tournament qualification began. 204 nations out of 208 national teams under FIFA participated and 32 teams cleared up to the final tournament. From the Asian Football Confederation, four teams have qualified that includes Australia, Korea Republic, Korea DPR and Japan. From the confederation of African Football, the qualified team includes South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire. From the Confederation of Central American, North and Caribbean Association, Mexico, the United States and Honduras have qualified for the world football.

The five teams of Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay for the World Cup come from the South American Football Confederation. The Oceania Football Confederation, the host of world football, has the nation of New Zealand playing in the tournament. 13 nations are qualified from The Union of European Football also popular as UEFA. These include the nations of England, France, Denmark, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia, Portugal and Slovenia.

There a total of eight groups each comprising of four countries. The Group A consists of Uruguay, Mexico, France and South Africa. Argentina, Korea Republic, Greece and Nigeria form the Group B. Group C includes Slovenia, USA, England and Algeria. The national teams of Germany, Ghana, Serbia and Australia together form the Group D. Netherlands, Japan, Cameroon and Denmark comprise Group E. Paraguay, Italy, New Zealand and Slovakia represent Group F. Group G constitutes of Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, Portugal and Korea DPR. The nations of Chile, Switzerland, Honduras and Spain fall under the Group H.

The one-month tournament is deemed one of the biggest sports events of the year. Football fans are flocking to South Africa to watch and cheer their favorite team and players. The cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban have been prepared with especially constructed multi-billion Rand Stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup schedule, with high security procedures and protocol. Few of the favorite players, this season are Lionel Messi from Argentina, Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal, Wayne Rooney from England and Kaka playing for Brazil.

Millions who are crazy football fans but could not make it to the host country could watch the event on their television screens as FIFA has sold its broadcasting rights to many broadcasters across the globe. Italy was the 2006 FIFA World Cup champion, winning the title for the fourth time.

Benefits of Hosting World Cup Soccer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The FIFA World Cup is an amazing international event held every four years. Fans from all over the world descend on the host country bringing with them an outpouring of color, passion, energy, and culture. The world game is a wonderful accolade to the country that plays host plus the event holds much promise to global broadcast, tourism, and injection of millions of dollars into the economy.

FIFA the international governing body for soccer (football) requires the host nation to comply with detailed regulations and specifications including security, transport, accommodation, training facilities, opening and closing ceremonies, marketing, promotions, ticketing, insurance, and other administrative matters.

Are there financial risks worth hosting such an event? Infrastructure issues (like airports, roads, stadiums, and public transport) for hosting such an event are usually among the major complications. When Athens hosted the Olympic Games in 2004, its budget went from US$1.6 billion to US$16 billion: Beijing in 2008 went from US$1.6 billion to around US$40 billion. London's price tag for the 2012 games has blown out from US$5 billion to around US$20 billion. So far, South Africa is estimated to have spent US$5 billion and FIFA US$1.1 billion on preparations before the kick-off of the 2010 World Cup.

Potentially millions of dollars from tourists are injected into small businesses, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, tours, and transport from hosting the FIFA tournament. However, the costs associated with a significant influx of visitors is the provision of security to fans and all the teams, counter-terrorist activities, policing racial sensitivities, and purchase and installation of high-tech monitoring equipment.

The revenue from the sale of tickets to the games if not achieved would back fire on the host country as it may take years to recover the outlay for hosting such a global event. History will determine the success of hosting the FIFA tournament. The global exposure of this world event may benefit the host country and its local suppliers/industries in years to come.

The study of a US economist on the historical experience of host nations since 1954 revealed that in 7 of the 13 tournaments since 1954, economic growth has been slower in the World Cup year than in the two years leading up to the event. On the other hand, 9 of the 13 host nations since 1954 has shown faster economic growth in the 2 years following the event.

What the FIFA World Cup does is that it brings the world together through competition fostering cross-cultural interaction and international understanding. In a world plagued by wars, racism, and religious intolerance, the FIFA World Cup contributes to universal brotherhood, whose benefits to humanity is impossible to quantify.

Around 6 billion people watch the Olympics but this is pale in comparison to the 26 billion who is estimated to watch the FIFA World Cup.

South Africa is hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June to July. The next FIFA World Cup will be held in June to July 2014 in Brazil, a nation who was crowned the world champions in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.

Smoking Law Change in South Africa - Second-Hand Smoking

Sunday, November 14, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Imagine yourself in your home in South Africa. It is a quiet moment, as you relax in front of the TV, or maybe you are in your garden enjoying the sunshine. Birds are singing in the trees, the sky is blue, you have earned a well-deserved time off and you feel good.

All of a sudden, you are ambushed. Two heroin addicts have broken into your home and are pinning you down. You cannot move. One is preparing a hypodermic needle. You instinctively know it has heroin in it and you want to scream "No!" but you are held down and silenced and there is nothing you can do but watch as the needle sinks into your vein and you feel the drug in your blood, along with whatever impurities were added to it. The heroin addicts saunter away, smirking at you, for even trying to stop this assault.

The next day, your body goes through a terrible reaction to the after-effects of this toxic injection. You become ill and have to take time off work. And just as you thought it was safe, the heroin addicts break into your home, one pins you down, and the other is holding a syringe and smirking at you. You know what is going to happen next and you are powerless to stop it...

Imagine this happening every day in your own home. Imagine that you now have to keep all your windows closed at all times, keep your eye on the lock, and be careful all the time. And then, when you think you are safe to go out to work or the shops, all of a sudden, you are ambushed again. You recognize the heroin addicts. Only this time there are four of them, you see the needle, you see them smirking at you, and you feel sick to your stomach knowing what is about to happen to you...

It is really awful, is it not? But if you are a smoker smoking illegally, then you are that addict. You are forcing your neighbour to take a drug that they choose not to take. You are forcing them to take this drug into their bloodstream whether they like it or not. If your workplace is near someone's home and you force them to smoke when you do, you are just like those heroin-injecting thugs in this story. It is one thing being an addict, and of course, the addiction is just that - something one cannot help. However, the law is now here to stop you from forcing innocent people to take your drug in their bloodstream.

Not convinced? Here are some facts that you may be interested in...

The owner of a workplace, including pub, bar, restaurant, beauty salon, hairdresser, or any other workplace can be fined up to R50,000 if their premises breach the smoking laws.
Not only can the owner of this establishment be fined, but you personally can be fined R500 for smoking in a non-smoking zone.
Non-smoking zones include partially enclosed public places such as covered patios (such as by a roof or awnings), verandas, balconies, walkways, lifts, and parking areas. You can face up to your addiction and do something about it. Quitting may be much easier than you think.

Everyone should have the right to choose and the right to freedom. Nobody is taking away a smoker's addiction. That is a smoker's right. It was my right too when I was a smoker, and I know from experience how I just could not cope without nicotine. I would not suggest taking away an addict's drug; that is their choice, and that choice must be respected. I have been there myself. However, now it is now law that smokers must not take their drug in forms that are harmful to others in public places. And that also must be respected.

LAKE BARINGO Kenya

Lake Baringo is part of the mighty 50 kilometre long Great Rift Valley that cuts through Kenya from north to south and its exceptional location helps to make it a valuable habitat for a great deal of plant and animal life. Many safari camps provide boat tours and a journey on the lake is an experience that should not be missed as it is the only realistic way to see the lake in all its splendor. The White Tailed Eagle is one of the region's most beautiful and majestic birds and usually nests in the trees that are located close to the water. Even though the lake and surrounding landscape have not yet been officially designated as a national park, the scenery is still mostly untouched and most certainly worth a visit.

2010 FIFA World Cup Match Reviews - South Africa Versus Mexico

Image : http://www.flickr.com

After the gala opening ceremony at Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, Mexico kicked off against South Africa. "Bafana Bafana," although supported by over 80,000 spectators and playing on home turf, started as underdogs against the 2009 CONCACAF champions. South Africa played in their traditional yellow shirts, green shorts and yellow socks, while the Mexicans donned their new dark green kit. Just to avoid defeat would have been a good result for South Africa and they did just that, managing a 1-1 draw with Mexico after taking a surprise lead.

Ravshan Irmatov from Uzbekistan got the match underway, with Mexico taking the kick-off. The Mexicans started brightly, playing in their usual manner. They maintained possession of the ball, playing regular short passes to work on the patience of the South Africans. In the first few minutes, they tested the South African's defence with some good crosses outside of the penalty area.

South Africa settled after the opening ten minutes and was able to interrupt the smooth flow of the Mexicans, even though the CONCACAF champions dominated ball possession. South Africa managed to carve out a couple of good chances in the first half. However, at the end of the first half the game was goalless despite the chances created by either side.

In the second half, South Africa started more positively and there was more balance in the flow of play. The Mexicans played a higher defensive line as they searched for the opening goal. However, their high defensive line left them vulnerable to a counter-attack. In the 55th minute of the game, Siphiwe Tshabalala exploited this vulnerability with a defence-splitting run on a swift counter-attack that started just after the halfway line. His clinical strike at the end of that run beat goalkeeper Oscar Perez from the left side of the penalty area to hit the corner of the net; South Africa had a surprising 1-0 lead.

Bafana Bafana coach Alberto Parreira adopted a defensive posture at that point, using the counter-attack and getting several players behind the ball when Mexico was in possession. The Mexicans found it difficult to break through and coach Javier Aguirre sought to get inspiration by introducing veteran striker Cuatemoc Blanco in the latter stages of the match. Blanco struck took the corner that eventually resulted in a Mexican equalizer. In the 79th minute, defender Rafael Marquez controlled the ball just outside the goal area and placed his shot past Itumeleng Khune in goal to shake the onion bag.

While the Mexicans pressed for the winner, South Africa came close to victory from a counter-attack that was similar to Tshabalala's opening. This time, midfielder Katlego Mphela struck the upright after beating Oscar Perez. Mexico dominated possession 65% - 35% and had more shots on goal than the home side. However, that domination did not translate to victory. In the end, it was a far result for both teams in a match contested in the right spirit. The Uzbekistan referee did not have to make any controversial calls and he showed only four yellow cards - two to each side.

Both sides would require better defensive work and finishing while South Africa should be concerned about their ball possession. Nevertheless, this result ensured that Mexico and South Africa would have a chance of qualifying in their final group matches of Group A.

Real Madrid Vs Deportivo La Coruna Full Highlights + Goals HD Week 6 03.10.2010

Real Madrid emphatically ended their disappointing run of goalscoring form by putting sorry Deportivo La Coruna to the sword in a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu. Much has been made of Madrid's lack of goals under new coach Jose Mourinho, with just nine scored in their opening seven competitive games, but the floodgates were smashed open on Sunday night. Cristiano Ronaldo netted first and last, with Mesut Ozil - his first for the club - Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and an own goal from Ze Castro completing the rout. Depor, whose only goals in their last six league games stretching back to last season came from two Andres Guardado penalties against Getafe, pulled one back in the 78th minute through Juan Rodriguez but they were already 5-0 down at that point and well beaten. Despite the swirling rain and blustery conditions at the Bernabeu, the home faithful were in fine spirits at the start of the match following the news that arch-rivals Barcelona had been surprisingly held 1-1 at home by Real Mallorca. And the Madrid supporters were soon able to revel in a fine attacking performance from their side which, unlike previous games, also included a final product. Ronaldo got the ball rolling in the fourth minute with a powerful downward header from Ozil's corner, and it was the Germany playmaker who doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. The summer signing from Werder Bremen looked to have wasted his opportunity as he cut back on his favoured left foot, but the retreating Depor ...

South Africa 2010 - The 11 Hottest Countries For the Cup

Image : http://www.flickr.com

1. Brazil
As always, the Samba Boys of Brazil are the pre - tournament favorites and 2 out of every 5 football fans will swear that Brazil will win the gold cup. Indeed, Brazil has very intimidating World Cup pedigree: the only country ever to have taken part in all the previous 18 editions of the FIFA competition and with an all - time record of 64 wins, 14 draws and 14 defeats to show for it.

Brazil has won the World Cup for a record 5 times and in 1970, Brazil became the first and only country till date allowed by FIFA to keep the 1st FIFA World Cup - the Jules Rimet Trophy - for life.

Brazil is currently rated number one in the latest FIFA rankings released on May 26, 2010 and their team coach, Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri ''Dunga'' who, as captain in 1994 won the World Cup in U.S.A, believes Brazil will win the cup in South Africa for a record 6 times. The Brazilian team is awash with stars: from Kaka (voted the 2007 World Best Footballer) to Robinho, Maicom, Kleberson, Nilmar, Luis Fabiano to Lucio, the squad is every football coach's dream team.

2. Spain
Spain is currently the 2nd best football country in the world, behind the mythical Brazil according to the FIFA rankings of May 26, 2010. They are the current European Champions and its football armory can boast of world class players like David Villa, Xabi, Cesc Fabregas, Iniesta and Fernando Torres, a lethal striker with renowned scoring prowess.

Spain had a 100% record winning all of their 10 qualifying matches for the World Cup. The country has also taken part in 12 previous editions of the FIFA tournament and they were 4th in Brazil 1950 which is their best performance till date.

3. Portugal
South Africa 2010 will be Portugal's 5th FIFA World Cup appearance and they occupy the 3rd place in the current FIFA rankings. Their best achievement in the World Cup was 3rd place at England 1966, a feat achieved with their legendary player, Eusebio proclaimed the best player of the tournament.

The current Portuguese national team has a surfeit of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo (the 2008 World Best Footballer), Pepe and Deco and it is expected that Portugal will break their perennial World Cup underachievement jinx this time around.

4. Netherlands (Holland)
Holland twice reached the World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978, but lost on both occasions to Germany and Argentina respectively. Like Portugal and Spain, they are also looked upon as underachievers who fail to triumph when it matters most.

However, the orange boys under their new coach, Bert Van Marwijk, had a good World Cup qualifying campaign and are currently ranked 4th best team in the world.

5. Italy
The Azuris are the defending champions having won Germany 2006 by defeating France 5 - 4 on penalties after a grueling 120 minutes 1 - 1 score line. After Brazil, they the 2nd best achievement at World Cup having qualified for 17 of the 19 editions and have won the World Cup 4 times (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006).

Stars in the formidable Italian squad include Fabio Cannavaro, Buffon, Gilardino and Battuso. Marcello Lippi, Italy's coach, is confident that the team is the best in the world and will win the 19th edition for the 5th time to match Brazil's record.

Italy is rated 5th best in the World in the FIFA rankings.

6. Germany
Germany has a strong World Cup pedigree having won the cup three times - 1954, 1974 and 1990 - 17 World Cup appearances. Famous stars to watch include Miroslav Klose, Pudolski and Phillip Lahm.

They will sorely miss their star midfielder and captain, Michael Ballack, due to injury, but he has been replaced by an equally talented player, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Germany occupies the 6th position in the FIFA rankings.

7. Argentina
Argentina is currently the 7th best football country in the world according to the current FIFA rankings. They are two-time champions of the World Cup having won in 1978 and 1986. Argentina is perhaps the most star-studded team in South Africa particularly with the awesome presence of Lionel Messi, the current World Best Footballer.

Messi is also currently Europe's leading scorer with 47 goals in all club competitions. Other stars to watch in the Argentine soccer war chest include Diego Milito, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

8. England
England is the World's 8th best football playing country as released by FIFA in their current World rankings of May 26, 2010.

England has featured in the previous eleven World Cup editions including their debut at Brazil 1950. They won the World Cup in their backyard in 1966 at Wembley Stadium and that has been their best performance till date.

However, in qualifying for South Africa 2010, they won 9 of their matches scoring 34 goals in the process. They are thus poised to go all the way to win the big one - the trophy - especially with their array of stars like Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerald, Fredrick Lampard and John Terry under the able guidance of Fabio Capello, the team coach.

9. France
Le Bleus as the French National team is called have appeared in 12 World Cups, winning on home soil in 1998. Although their qualification for South Africa was difficult (and no thanks to another ''hand of God'' incident by Thierry Henry in their play-off with Ireland), they have players with World Cup experience and this can just turn the table in their in South Africa 2010 for the 2nd time.

France is currently ranked 9th in the world by FIFA.

10. United States of America (U.S.A)
United States of America also has a relatively slim chance of springing a surprise at South Africa 2010. The team came tops in their World Cup qualifying group of North, Central America and Caribbeans. U.S.A was also second at the FIFA Confederation Cup held in South Africa last year and had in fact led almighty Brazil in the final by 2 - 0 before Brazil leveled up and went on to win by 3 - 2!

South Africa 2010 will be the United States' 6th consecutive appearance at the tournament and they are currently ranked 14th in the world.

11. South Africa
South Africa, the host nation, is Africa's best prepared team for the competition, having played more friendly matches than any other African team. They recently defeated Denmark 1 - 0 to add to their increasing tally of victories in friendly matches.

Only Cameroon (at Italia '90) and Senegal (at Korea/Japan 2002) have ever reached the World Cup Quarter-finals - the best achievement by any African side.

In the latest FIFA rankings of May 26, 2010 - the last ranking before the World Cup on June 11, 2010 - South Africa was the only country out of 208 listed countries in the ranking to achieve the highest movement of 7 places from 90th position to 83rd position.

This writer tips South Africa - well ahead of Cote D'Ivoire (currently touted as Africa's World Cup hope and ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings), Cameroon (currently ranked 19th in the world), Ghana (currently ranked 32nd in the world), Nigeria (currently ranked 29th in the world) and Algeria (currently ranked 30th in the World) - to, at least, equal the quarter-finals record of Cameroon and Senegal.

Egypt, the king of African football and winners of the African Cup of Nations for a record 6 times - including the last 3 editions which they won consecutively - sadly failed to qualify for South Africa 2010. They lost 0 - 1 to Algeria in a tension-soaked play-off in Sudan. Egypt is the only African team in the top 15 of the FIFA rankings and, perhaps, if they had qualified, they could have won the Cup for Africa for the first time, but this is not to be for now.

So, which one of these 11 hottest countries will lift the World Cup on July 11, 2010?

The next and last article on South Africa 2010 by this writer will take the bulls by the horn by using the 4 Ps for World Cup success - Preparation, (team)Power, Pedigree and Providence - to predict the most likely winner of the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A bit of racing history about the amazing cup race is explained in the rest of this article. The first Melbourne Cup Winner was decided back in 1861. The first winner of this amazing race was by a horse called Archer. This year marks the 150th cup race.

People in Melbourne have a public holiday just for this race. Most people on this day make a little bet and put their hopes on a horse that they love the most or a trainer that they love. Bart Cummings is a famous trainer that has trained an amazing twelve Melbourne Cup Winners. In 2010, Bart Cummings is out to make it his thirteenth.

Bart Cummings first Melbourne Cup Winner was 45 years ago back in 1965. The amazing horse was by the name of Light Fingers. Bart Cummings has since gone on to win many more Group 1 races and train many horses. He has also trained an amazing seven Caulfield Cup Winners. The Caulfield Cup is also another famous horse race.

The number of people that love to place a punt on horse races or even virtual horse races is huge. People around the world can't resist a small punt here and there. There are some that take the love of gambling too far but this is only in a small number of cases. Some people go by statistics and some just go by gut feeling. There is really no right way to bet.

The winner of a horse race is determined by so many factors. Even the horse that is favourite to win a race does not always win. You might think that a horse with really short odds has a great chance of winning, but even playing it safe and betting for it to run first three might be wrong. A lot of luck is involved in choosing the right horse.

Thousands and thousands of dollars amounts of bets are placed on the race. The cup winner is always difficult to pick and pretty much each horse has an opportunity. No horse can be ruled out because it is a brilliant race over three thousand two hundred meters. It is a long and tiresome horse race and lots of horses do not regularly race that distance.

In conclusion, Melbourne Cup Tickets are on sale soon and you can purchase them through Ticketmaster. This years cup race in Melbourne at Flemington will surely be amazing.

Fuzzy Blue Lights- Owl City

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Buy this song on Itunes: tinyurl.com Adam's myspace :]- www.myspace.com/owlcity lyrics: If I could look across the country From California to New Jersey Then I would count the parks and lake resorts And number all the jets and airports All those rather dreary rain clouds still bother me Cuz I look through the camera eyepiece and cannot see If I could open up my window And see from Tampa Bay to Juneau Then I would survey all those open miles And line them up in single file Everywhere I look I see green scenic sublime And all those oceanic vistas are so divine If I was standing on the balcony And you were walking down below I'd feel rather depressed and out of place And lonely just to watch you go If you were swinging from the highway overpass Within the western hemisphere I'd feel rather afraid and insincere If you began to disappear If I was walking through a sad art gallery And you were driving through the night I'd feel rather alone and ill at ease Beneath the brilliant showroom light If I was flying on a plane above your town And you were gazing at the sky Somehow I'd feel intact and reassured If you began to wave goodbye
