Are You Ready For Football? My Journey Into Fantasy Football

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Well it's middle of summer and there is nothing really going on. World Cup is raging across the world, but that is not really my sport. Being from Texas, soccer or Futbol is not my thing. Of course, nothing against the sport of soccer but Texas is known for football and of course, the Cowboys.

As a football fan, I have heard about fantasy football. This summer, I decided to learn more about this game.

What exactly is fantasy football?

Players get together to form a league. Players also called owners. Now this is a fantastic idea! How many football fans have dreamed of owning an NFL football team? I know I have!

The Draft: Owners Draft Players

The owners of each team in the league has a draft. They draft real life football players. Teams draft quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends and running backs. You earn fantasy points in this league based on the statistics of these real life football players. One can join leagues for either the NFL or the NCAA.

It all comes down to how much time and money you want to spend. You could spend a couple hours a week to several hours a day. A lot of time will be spent watching games and keeping up with statistics, which is yet another excuse to watch. You will be watching games you ordinarily wouldn't watch due to one of your players participating in the game. You just might find yourself becoming a fan of a team you never thought possible. I might even find myself routing for the Eagles!

Next Addition: The Fantasy Football Draft

Anyways the next football article will be on fantasy draft. I am going to do a mock draft with some friend see how it works.
