In the summer of 2010 the biggest event in sport kicks off in South Africa, the World Cup Football Finals. Schedule For Cricket Match Series Between South Africa and India

Amidst the war to retain number one position in five day test matches, India is really keen to play with its nearest competitor - South Africa. The plan was made on a very short notice. BCCI (Board of Cricket Control of India) requested South Africa board for this series. South Africa also showed its interest for the competition and they decided for a series in India.

Now, the schedule has arrived and these two nations will play two test matches and three one dayers between Jan 31 and Feb 27. They will also play couple of practice matches in the meantime.

The next day, your body goes through a terrible reaction to the after-effects of this toxic injection. You become ill and have to take time off work. And just as you thought it was safe, the heroin addicts break into your home, one pins you down, and the other is holding a syringe and smirking at you. You know what is going to happen next and you are powerless to stop it...

Imagine this happening every day in your own home. Imagine that you now have to keep all your windows closed at all times, keep your eye on the lock, and be careful all the time. And then, when you think you are safe to go out to work or the shops, all of a sudden, you are ambushed again. You recognize the heroin addicts. 2010 FIFA World Cup Match Reviews - South Africa Versus Mexico

After the gala opening ceremony at Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, Mexico kicked off against South Africa. "Bafana Bafana," although supported by over 80,000 spectators and playing on home turf, started as underdogs against the 2009 CONCACAF champions. South Africa played in their traditional yellow shirts, green shorts and yellow socks, while the Mexicans donned their new dark green kit. Just to avoid defeat would have been a good result for South Africa and they did just that, managing a 1-1 draw with Mexico after taking a surprise lead.

Ravshan Irmatov from Uzbekistan got the match underway, with Mexico taking the kick-off. The Mexicans started brightly, playing in their usual manner. They maintained possession of the ball, playing regular short passes to work on the patience of the South Africans. In the first few minutes, they tested the South African's defence with some good crosses outside of the penalty area.

South Africa settled after the opening ten minutes and was able to interrupt the smooth flow of the Mexicans, even though the CONCACAF champions dominated ball possession. South Africa managed to carve out a couple of good chances in the first half. However, at the end of the first half the game was goalless despite the chances created by either side.

In the second half, South Africa started more positively and there was more balance in the flow of play. The Mexicans played a higher defensive line as they searched for the opening goal. However, their high defensive line left them vulnerable to a counter-attack. In the 55th minute of the game, Siphiwe Tshabalala exploited this vulnerability with a defence-splitting run on a swift counter-attack that started just after the halfway line. His clinical strike at the end of that run beat goalkeeper Oscar Perez from the left side of the penalty area to hit the corner of the net; South Africa had a surprising 1-0 lead.

Bafana Bafana coach Alberto Parreira adopted a defensive posture at that point, using the counter-attack and getting several players behind the ball when Mexico was in possession. The Mexicans found it difficult to break through and coach Javier Aguirre sought to get inspiration by introducing veteran striker Cuatemoc Blanco in the latter stages of the match. Blanco struck took the corner that eventually resulted in a Mexican equalizer. In the 79th minute, defender Rafael Marquez controlled the ball just outside the goal area and placed his shot past Itumeleng Khune in goal to shake the onion bag.

While the Mexicans pressed for the winner, South Africa came close to victory from a counter-attack that was similar to Tshabalala's opening. This time, midfielder Katlego Mphela struck the upright after beating Oscar Perez. Mexico dominated possession 65% - 35% and had more shots on goal than the home side. However, that domination did not translate to victory. In the end, it was a far result for both teams in a match contested in the right spirit. The Uzbekistan referee did not have to make any controversial calls and he showed only four yellow cards - two to each side.

Both sides would require better defensive work and finishing while South Africa should be concerned about their ball possession. Nevertheless, this result ensured that Mexico and South Africa would have a chance of qualifying in their final group matches of Group A.

Spain had a 100% record winning all of their 10 qualifying matches for the World Cup. The country has also taken part in 12 previous editions of the FIFA tournament and they were 4th in Brazil 1950 which is their best performance till date.

3. Portugal
South Africa 2010 will be Portugal's 5th FIFA World Cup appearance and they occupy the 3rd place in the current FIFA rankings. Their best achievement in the World Cup was 3rd place at England 1966, a feat achieved with their legendary player, Eusebio proclaimed the best player of the tournament.

5. Italy
The Azuris are the defending champions having won Germany 2006 by defeating France 5 - 4 on penalties after a grueling 120 minutes 1 - 1 score line. After Brazil, they the 2nd best achievement at World Cup having qualified for 17 of the 19 editions and have won the World Cup 4 times (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006).

Stars in the formidable Italian squad include Fabio Cannavaro, Buffon, Gilardino and Battuso. Marcello Lippi, Italy's coach, is confident that the team is the best in the world and will win the 19th edition for the 5th time to match Brazil's record.

Italy is rated 5th best in the World in the FIFA rankings.

6. Germany
Germany has a strong World Cup pedigree having won the cup three times - 1954, 1974 and 1990 - 17 World Cup appearances. Famous stars to watch include Miroslav Klose, Pudolski and Phillip Lahm.

They will sorely miss their star midfielder and captain, Michael Ballack, due to injury, but he has been replaced by an equally talented player, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Germany occupies the 6th position in the FIFA rankings.

7. Argentina
Argentina is currently the 7th best football country in the world according to the current FIFA rankings. They are two-time champions of the World Cup having won in 1978 and 1986. Argentina is perhaps the most star-studded team in South Africa particularly with the awesome presence of Lionel Messi, the current World Best Footballer.

Messi is also currently Europe's leading scorer with 47 goals in all club competitions. Other stars to watch in the Argentine soccer war chest include Diego Milito, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

8. England
England is the World's 8th best football playing country as released by FIFA in their current World rankings of May 26, 2010.

England has featured in the previous eleven World Cup editions including their debut at Brazil 1950. They won the World Cup in their backyard in 1966 at Wembley Stadium and that has been their best performance till date.

However, in qualifying for South Africa 2010, they won 9 of their matches scoring 34 goals in the process. This writer tips South Africa - well ahead of Cote D'Ivoire (currently touted as Africa's World Cup hope and ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings), Cameroon (currently ranked 19th in the world), Ghana (currently ranked 32nd in the world), Nigeria (currently ranked 29th in the world) and Algeria (currently ranked 30th in the World) - to, at least, equal the quarter-finals record of Cameroon and Senegal.

Egypt, the king of African football and winners of the African Cup of Nations for a record 6 times - including the last 3 editions which they won consecutively - sadly failed to qualify for South Africa 2010. They lost 0 - 1 to Algeria in a tension-soaked play-off in Sudan. Egypt is the only African team in the top 15 of the FIFA rankings and, perhaps, if they had qualified, they could have won the Cup for Africa for the first time, but this is not to be for now.

South Africa went into celebration mode at the final word of hosting the Fifa World Cup 2010 Soccer. This is amazing and a fantastic opportunity to show the world just what South Africa has to offer.

Major preparations are underway for this great event. Aspects include preparing the international airports to cater for the traffic inflow expected. Significant renovations are underway improving airport access, parking and baggage handling.

Stadiums are being built in the major areas where the games will be played and tourism establishments are stepping up the pace to offer world class accommodation adequately catering for more people.

Even tour companies are making sure that visitors - both viewers and participants of the Game will have a throughly wonderful experience when not within the stadium confines.

South Africa is making tremendous progress in this regard. The whole country is on board and so excited to show case the very best of South Africa.

Fortunately as the Games will be played in various of South African cities, there is a perfect chance to view plenty. The city of Cape Town is home to about 3.5 million people in South Africa. Its covered area is (948 sq mi) which is bigger than all the other cities of South Africa. The town is considered as a very populous city in South Africa; commonly it is ranked as second most populous city of South Africa.

Winter is generally from May to September, during this period it generally receives really cool breezes and sometimes heavy rainfall. These winter months are cool enough, the temperature in the winter season ranges from 7-17 degrees.

The summer is very humid and hot. It gets strong winds from the south east side and these winds are commonly known to the people of Cape Town as "Cape Doctor". They are given this name due to the fact that the people believe that these strong winds help the atmosphere of the city to be clean and healthy. During summertime the temperature levels can rise up to maximum level of 30 degrees.

Economically it is considered as the financial and economic hub of the South African Economy. The mining industry has developed itself as the most regarded industry. According to the statistics from 2002 around 5000 employers have been employed in this sector.

Cricket and Rugby are the most watched and played games in the Town. Also in some areas football is liked by youngsters. In rugby league Cape Town has the team "Western Province". Their home ground is named as Newlands Stadium. South Africa also has its own soccer league and has it owns two teams which compete very strongly in the league. These teams are known as "Ajax cape Town" and "Santos".

South Africa will be hosting FIFA World Cup 2010 so Cape Town will also be involved in the event and will host some of the games including the semi final.

South Africa on Trial Run For the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Visit the South African flagship stadium for the Fifa World Cup 2010 and you will see that the seats have now been installed and the grass on the pitch is already turning a brilliant and rich green. This extraordinary change has now almost reached completion. The management of the venue is planning a view trial games before the opening which is scheduled for February 2010.

A second stadium is being located in Soweto in Johannesburg, and this Soccer City stadium will be hosting the opening and final matches of the tournament which is being played by 32 nations. This stadium will see the first five round matches as well as one second round match being played there - along with the quarter final match.

Touring the enormous Soccer City stadium on Friday, it became obvious that the 94,700 seat installation has nearly reached completion and it is looking good. There are only about 4,700 seats to complete and it presents as a sea of orange spreading out before you.

Within the orange seats are 10 lines of black seats which extend from the front row right up from the lower tier to the last row on the upper tier. Aligned with these 10 lines are 10 vertical slots which due to the way that they have been positioned, provide a pointer to the 9 other 2010 World Hose stadia as well as directing the eye to the Olypiastadion in Berlin, Germany where the 2006 World Cup final was play four years before.

If you stand on the upper tier of the stadium, it feels like you are standing on the very edge of a colossal bowl as the green base of the bowl is far below you. There are two rectangular gaps where giant television screens will be placed and these are to be installed on the second tier on the eastern and westerns stands.

The seats for the VIP's are located on the second tier and are yet to be installed but these will be of a more luxurious material than used in the rest of the stadium.

The grass used in the pitch was grown in place by the Ibhola Lethu Cornsortium and it has so far, responded well to the sunny spring weather in Johannesburg and although there are still some patches to grown to completion. The pitch will apparently be ready for the opening ceremonies in February 2010 according to Barry Pollen, the Director of Stadium management South Africa who goes on to say:

"We hope to test the stadium before the official opening by staging a number of events that are not necessarily football-related. In order to test the stadium, we need to get, for example, 10 000 schoolchildren from Soweto, give them tickets and let them use the toilets, kiosks and other concessions that provide food without any game being played."

It is envisaged that a football match would be played on the site in February 2010 and draw in some of the big teams in South Africa providing spectators with a Soweto derby.

Mr Pollen goes on:

"We will not necessarily want to test the stadium by having a full capacity match - capacity can be 10 percent less of capacity. There may be test matches involving rugby clubs."

The underground passages under the stadium provide a labyrinthine experience and suites of rooms are still under construction. Some of the passages are still being completed but the view of Johannesburg glimpsed through the gaps in the facade is amazing. There are roughly 6000 car park spaces provided for visitors near the stadium and also an additional 20,000 spaces provided for underground parking.

Johannesburg is well known for the quality of it's stadia - with Ellis Park, Orlando, Dobsonille, Rand and Ruimsig all famous. The city is preparing for an influx of visitors and has improved the infrastructure and transport in readiness.
