Did you know- The team of Argentina claimed silver at the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928. In the gold medal match, they lost 2-1 to Uruguay.The Olympic final was between two of the best Latin American squads.
Canada
Did you know- The 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Championships were scheduled for Canada.
Costa Rica
Did you know- Surprisingly, Costa Rica defeated Germany -one of the world's most respect teams-- 2-1 in the FIFA Under-20 World Championship in Lagos (Africa) in the late 1990s.
Mexico & U.S.A
Did you know- Two North American teams participated in the global competition in 2006. Mexico placed 15th; meanwhile the United States soccer team finished 25th. Three years later, during the FIFA World Cup Qualification, Mexico and America also qualified for the 2010 World Tournament in South Africa.
Uruguay
Did you know- In one of the most memorable international events, Uruguay won the men's World Cup by defeating Brazil, local team, 2-1, in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, before 199,859 persons, the largest crowd ever for a sporting event. Curiously Uruguay won Latin America's second global title in history at the 1950 World Cup. At the same time, it became the second country to win the universal title twice. Without a doubt, Uruguay was considered one of the world's shining success stories.
United States of America
Did you know- The States hosted the FIFA World Cup in June 1994. This was the third time the global tournament had taken place in North America (the universal event was held in the United Mexican States in the 1970s and 1980s). At the 1994 World Championship, the national team of America beat Colombia (one of the heavy-favorites) 2-1. Four years later, by 1998, the squad of the United States provided one of the more memorable moments of the Gold Cup: they beat Brazil 1-0. In the next year, USA beat England 1-0 in the FIFA Under-20 World Championships in April 1999. On the other hand, the United States soccer team competed at the Games of the 29th Olympiad in the People's Republic of China. Unlike America, Mexico and Canada did not gain a place for the 2008 Olympics.
Venezuela
Did you know- In an exciting final match against Mexico, the team from Venezuela won the gold medal in the men's soccer at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the early 1980s. For the first time in the history of the Caribbean Games, Venezuela placed first. The champions were Daniel Nikolac, Oscar Arroyo, Arturo Olivares, Nelson Carrero, Ramon Parra, Angel Castillo, Rodolfo Carvajal, Robert Elie, Bernardo Anor, Iker Zubizarreta, Carlos Betancourt, Ricardo Penfold, Douglas Cedeño, Jose Gamboa, Jose Castrillo, and Jorge Ferrazuiti.
