The 2010 World Cup is almost upon us and much of the talk will be about which player will take home the Golden Boot award. In 2010 we're likely to see more individual talent than ever before seen at a World Cup, with many extremely talented players on show.
Top of the list of talented players is Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Messi has been in mesmerising form for his club and goes into the World Cup hoping to rival the achievements of Argentine legend Diego Maradona. If Messi can score the goals to lead his nation to World Cup success this year it will go a long way to cementing his position as one of the greatest players ever.
Arguably the only man who currently comes rivals Messi for talent is Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo's goal scoring record has been incredible over the last few seasons and he will be hoping to continue that into South Africa. When Ronaldo is on top of his game he is virtually unplayable and Portuguese fans will be hoping his demonstrate some of the goal scoring form he has at club level onto the international stage.
Fernando Torres and David Villa form the most feared strike force in the tournament. Two of the most talented strikers on the planet will play ahead of possibly the most creative midfield which will create a recipe for goals. Spain are widely expected to go all the way this summer, and if they do, Torres and Villa will be right up the top of the scoring charts.
England goes into the tournament with star striker Wayne Rooney in his best ever form. If England are to win the tournament they will need to rely heavily on goals from Rooney. Rooney has carried Manchester United for much of the current season and England fans will be hoping he can do the same for his country.
Someone who can never be written out of a battle for the World Cup Golden Boot is Germany's Miroslav Klose. Klose is one of the most predatory strikers in the World. Outstanding in the air and composed in front of goal, Klose is the current Golden Boot holder and will be hoping to defend his crown in South Africa.
For the first time in many years Brazil go into the tournament without a world class striker as a focal point. Arguably the best striker they currently have is Sevilla's Luis Fabiano. Fabiano was their leading scorer in qualification and the Brazilians, who always score plenty of goals, will be hoping that he can continue that form into the tournament itself.
